Summer Vacation Makeup

Hello my vacationing beauties! With summer on the horizon, I'm sure all of you are starting to think about getting away to a beach somewhere. The only thing that sucks about traveling to a hot and humid place is that it wreaks havoc on your makeup and hair. Earlier, I brought you a segment about what products to use on your trip, and here, I'll show you how to use them and have a waterproof, natural pretty look that you can do in under four minutes. Who wants to take all day doing their hair and makeup on vacation? Not me. Take a load off and watch the video below....

January Shop & Tell

Hello my beauties! I tried not to go overboard, so this video isn't very long, but I definitely hit the jackpot with all these superb products!

KollegenX Face Mask

I picked up this awesome 24K Gold Collegen Mask at the International Makeup Trade Show last month from KollegenX's booth. They come four in a pack. Click HERE to find out which salon near you carries their brand.

I don't look as glamorous as the girl in their ad, but I still felt like a rock star.
The mask is a silicone, rubbery texture covered in liquid. The liquid consists of Collegen and 24K Gold to boost your skin's cell renewal process as well as reducing wrinkles and puffyness. I laid down while wearing the mask to keep it from falling (my face is pretty small, apparently, because the mask was sliding all over the place and the holes were way too big). 20 minutes later, I threw away the mask and gently rubbed the remaining liquid into my skin. It dried in about 10 minutes total and man, did my skin look radiant and even-toned! Love this stuff...I'm so glad they were at the IMATS!

Lady C's Makeup Must Haves

We are finally at Part 4 in the four-part "Must Haves" series! Here, I'll be talking about what makeup I use on a daily basis. Below is my "makeup station" at home, complete with my chalkboard gardenia-scented soy candle (I scrawled Japan on it in leu of the disasters that have affected the people there).

Pictured here are my "face" products from L-R:
MAC Fix + Spray
MAC Prep N Prime
MAC Fix Fluid Foundation

Application: I apply the SPF 30 all over and let it sit while I walk my dog outside. It's important for your SPF to settle into your skin before you put your makeup on, or else everything will look oily. Then, I rub some of Jouer's Matte creme  (Thanks Jen C!) onto my T-zone: down the bridge of my nose and forehead. Next, I mix one pump of the primer with one pump of my foundation, to create a super matte, long wearing, sheer application that will last all day. I apply all this with my fingers. Next I apply concealer to the whole eye area, lids included.  After everything is applied, I spray the Fix + to set the makeup.

Below are all of my "highlight & contour" products clockwise from the top:
MAC Cheek blush
       MAC Springsheen shimmer blush
   MAC Ladyblush Blush Creme
MAC Lune Creme Highlight
        MAC Mineral Skinfinish Powder
     MAC Refined Golden Bronzer

Application: I dust the Skinfinish powder all over to set my foundation. It's not really my favorite powder, but since I have it around, I'll make it work. Next I contour my face with the bronzer.
I apply the creme blush with my fingers to the apples of my cheeks, then set it with a mix of Cheek and Springsheen, which looks like a lovely pink-coral on my skin. I apply Lune to my highlight areas: cheekbones and brow bones. Lune was a limited product. If you would like to get something similar, try Pearl or Shell Cream Colour Base by MAC.

Pictured below are my various eye/face products:

MAC Eyelash Curler
MAC Select Coverup in NW25
MAC Fluidline in Black Track

Application: I always apply concealer AFTER foundation, and before powder. I fill in my brows with this amazing gel from MUF with an angle brush. I warm up the lash curler in my palms before giving a quick squeeze. I look down into a compact or a swivel mirror and apply my mascara by wiggling up and out. If I have time, I'll line my eyes with the Fluidline and an angle brush. I will lightly dust the Sparklicity (LOVE) over the areas that I applied Lune, as well as the inner corners of my eyes. A swipe of Fresh's lip balm with one of my million lip glosses, and I'm ready to leave the house! LOL

Tools: I'm going to save which brushes I use for another blog post, but I'll share the tools I use on the daily here: A pair of safety scissors to trim my crazy Armenian eyebrows, slanted tweezers to groom absolutely everything on my body, and a palette to squirt various products on. I got mine from a pro store, however you can just get an artist's palette from Aaron Brothers for around $3 and it will do the trick!

 NOT PICTURED:
Eye Primer- Urban Decay Primer Potion in EDEN
Eyeshadows- I don't wear shadows every day, but when I do... I use MAC. Nobody makes eye shadows and pigments like MAC Cosmetics. Period.

Lady C's Skin Must Haves

Welcome to Part II of the Four Part series for Lady C's Must Haves! Below are the products I use almost daily on my skin.

Crest Extra White with Scope Outlast - Ok, I know this isn't technically a skin product, but I love it so much I had to mention it first. You know those toothpaste commercials where the people go about their day smiling and "feeling fresh all day long?" This toothpaste gives you that fresh feeling for at least 3 hours. NO KIDDING. If I could give one product to each American, it would be this hands down. I give it two Blackberry Messenger thumbs up! Oh if everyone could have fresh, minty breath!

Purity Face Cleanser- I buy this in bulk from Philosophy's website. I have the 32 oz. bottle with a pump sitting in my shower as we speak. Its mild formula is wonderful for all skin types and still strong enough to remove makeup. A quarter-size amount does the trick. I use it every night in the shower (the hot water opens up your pores and allows for all the dirt/oils to come out easier.)

Fresh Sugar Face Polish -- Two words: Ob.Sessed. Okay, one word. But still. The wild strawberries and brown sugar make this smell --and I'll admit-- taste yummy. The grainy texture really polishes the skin without feeling rough.
Rub Rub Rub -- with citruses like lemons and orange, floral components like Jasmine and sea salt, this body scrub doesn't mess around. I stir it up to mix the salts at the bottom and dab a dollar coin-size amount on my loofah and scrub-rub-rub away about once a week. This is great to polish your skin and get it ready for any self-tanners you may use.

Neutrogena Micromist Sunless Tanner- I lightly mist myself with this after rubbing in some of Loreal's Sublime Bronze tanner into my skin. I like the combination of using a gel tanner, then misting with this spray tanner to get overall coverage and a deep, glowy, natural color.

Loreal Sublime Bronze Clear Self-Tanning Gel - I wasn't the biggest fan of the Sublime Bronze line of tanners from Loreal. Most of them left me glittery- getting sparkles all over  my clothes- and splotchy. Worst of all, my skin looked patchy as it wore off. HOWEVER, the GEL product is great. The light clear formula dissolves into your skin and mixed with the Neutrogena mist above, gives great color payoff, without getting splotchy or patchy.

Victoria's Secret Heavenly Mist- I have really bad allergies, and I usually wake up feeling pretty nauseaus so I stay away from heady, strong perfume. I love the Heavenly body spray-- call me old school, but it does the trick and the scent is, well.... heavenly. The boyfriend likes it too.

Bubble gum Lip Scrub-- Any flavor of Lush's lip scrubs do the trick. It's got jojoba oil and castor sugar, so it's not honey-like or sticky. I stand over the sink after I brush my teeth at night, and crumble the little crystals all over my lips. I wash the extra off and dab on my lip balm, which is coming up...right below.

Fresh Lip Balm -- This product is so worth the $22. I have the clear one for night time and the Plum shade for day that I wear under my gloss.

Creme de la Mer -- I don't want anyone thinking I'm a big spender here, because I'm living off of a sample of this stuff lol. In a perfect world, Creme de La Mer face cream would cost $10 a jar, and I would slather it all my body. *Sigh

When Hope is not Enough Serum  -- Can't get enough of this anti-aging serum! I squeeze two drops onto my fingers and pat it onto my skin like I'm playing the piano. Safe to use around the delicate eye area. I top off with a moisturizer like Creme de La Mer or Philosophy's own Hope cream.

St. Ives Replenishing Mineral Therapy -- This is a great basic lotion for hands, feet and all over. I particularly love the smell...it smells like a soapy rain forest, if you can imagine that. It's one that the boyfriend and I share, so I call the scent "man-friendly."

Sisley-Paris Product Review

I was given some Sisley Paris products to sample by my lovely mother. I have to credit a lot of what I know about makeup and skincare to my mom. She has always been very good with her makeup. I won't say how old she is (because she will kill me) but her skin looks radiant! Growing up, Mom always did my makeup for school dances and dance/piano recitals. She gave me the "winged eyeliner" gene, which basically means we can both do liquid winged eyeliner with our hands tied behind our backs, haha. Mom is from Lebanon, so she was exposed to lots of expensive overseas creams and beautiful pricey makeup from Europe that I could never afford. She lets me borrow her stuff and gives me the products she won't use anymore, which I totally appreciate. I sampled the four (expensive, I'm talkin' $100 for 3 ounces) Sisley products below and here are my thoughts...

Looks like: Thick ivory cream
Smells like: Soft-spicy
Survey says? This is a great product for someone who wants to lighten their skin (very popular in the Asian culture, not so much in USA). It's also ideal for someone who has discoloration due to sun spots and wants to fade them out.

Looks Like:A smooth, white cream
Smells like: Very green, woodsy
Survey says? With Juniper and Salvia oil, this is a very strong-smelling cream that moisturized really well. It may not be the best for someone with oily skin or a sensitive nose...like I said, it's very strong!

Looks like: clear watery gel
Smells like: fresh flowers
Survey says? LOVE this stuff, it was super hydrating. I applied a heavy amount of the gel all over my face and around my eyes. I waited 5 minutes, removed the excess with a tissue, and left the rest on. I woke up with the softest skin ever. And it smells AMAZING

 Looks like: Sheer white serum
Smells like: Intoxicating rose-milk
Survey says? Milk and Sage make this a pleasant serum ideal for any skin. It was so soothing. I would describe it as Chamomile Tea for the skin.

Winter 2011 Product Review

Happy December!

I am excited to share with you a plethora of beauty products that I recently got on my last (few) trip(s) to Sephora. I've recently started branching out and trying different brands. Most of my makeup career, I've relied heavily on MAC Cosmetics products, mostly because of my training there for 5 years and also because I get a SWEET discount with them. However, lately, I've felt a craving for more... variety. I mean, I can't call myself a good makeup artist if I mainly use one line of cosmetics! This recent urge has taken me on many trips to Sephora and several beauty counters, as well as poring through Youtube tutorials and online reviews. Every waking moment I have had the last few weeks has been spent educating myself on all the different brands and TRYING everything! I feel like I have a whole new world at my fingertips, but also, like I am doomed because of course all of this is COSTLY up the wazoo. Anyway, below are my new findings and what I thought of them.

Makeup For Ever HD Foundation-- $40
I don't know where this foundation has been all my life, but I am AS excited about this as I was about NSync in high school. For the first time in my life, I am applying foundation on with my fingers. It glides on smoothly and gives beautiful coverage without feeling heavy. The color dries down true to what it looks like in the bottle, which is hard to find, as most foundations end up drying down darker than they look, or more yellow or pink. It looks gorgeous in photos as well as in person. Long-wearing and even a little sweat-proof.

FRESH Magic Wands Mini Mascara Duo -- $10
I bought these in the checkout line at Sephora. Fresh's full size mascaras are a bit pricy, so I wanted to try them out before I committed. Supernova (the black one) looked beautiful at first, then slowly weighed my lashes down. It also doesn't dry fully..it feels like gel even hours after you apply it. Firebird (the blue one) however, is AMAZING. The wand can whip any flimsy lash hair into shape and LIFT your whole lashline. Dried down well and stayed on all day.

Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Gold -- $19
This is part of Tarantino's limited Gold Collection and is simply divine. The light reflects off the mineralized crystals in this golden dust and just heavenly. I applied some MAC Cream Color Base to my cheekbones and dusted it on with a flat-tipped blush brush. The result? ETHEREAL

Makeup For Ever Waterproof Eyebrown Corrector-- $19
Once again, where on God's green earth has this been all my life? I have always been very disappointed with the quality of eyebrow-filling products in the market, until this. I've tried everything: eyebrow waxes (too greasy), eyebrow liners (to harsh), eyebrow gels (crusty and pointless), and eyeshadow-as-eyebrow-filler (not strong enough). I hate when people's eyebrows dissappear in photos because of the flash, or just look faded or even worse SHINY because of the product they put in them (mine included!). This silicone-based gel feels more like a cream and is applied with an angle brush. The color STAYS PUT (even through a workout at the gym), stays MATTE and stays SOLID. Washes off with soap and water. One tube will probably last you a lifetime, and no, I'm not joking. The only jest I have is that it only comes in 4 shades. I'm hoping they expand this line because it's honestly amazing.

Attention Blondies: This product also doubles as a lash darkener when applied with a clean mascara brush! And on graying sideburns and mustaches, so Grandpa and your Dad will be happy campers as well.

FRESH Prime & Glow Duo-- $10
Freshface Primer and Freshface Glow
Once again, I was trying not to break the bank, so I bought the sample-sized version of these two products in the checkout line of Sephora. The Freshface Primer smells amazing (like roses!) and a tiny bit does go a long way. I'm not sure if it's worth the hefty price though ($36) , since there are so many other primers that are cheaper and can do the job just fine. The Freshface Glow  ($36) is a moisturizer with a red pearl glow. It's really gorgeous, but reminds me of MAC's Strobe Cream ($29), which is slightly cheaper. My thoughts? If you got the $$ go for it. If not, there are cheaper options.

Sephora Face Wipes (25)-- $8
What...an utter dissappointment. I jumped at the price-- 25 wipes for eight bucks!-- but gravely regretted it later. First of all, the wipes feel like they are SOAKED in Palm Olive. Secondly, it didn't remove jack sh*t. After using one wipe, I looked like Heath Ledger's The Joker. I still had to wash off the remainder of my makeup with my Philosophy Purity cleanser and warm water. I still stand strongly by MAC's wipes (45 for $18).

I think I have a problem...

A LUSH problem! Their holiday stuff is out. Here's what I got:

  • Holiday Bath Time Favorites tin, which features 9 baby bath bombs: Butter Ball, Winter Bath, Sex Bomb, Avobath, Honey Bee, Big Blue, Cinders, Li'l Lush Pud, So White. Trust me, it's a better deal.

  • Candy Cane Bubble Bar (left)
  • Christmas Eve Bubble Bar (purple with the moon)
  • Gingerbread House (cupcake lookin')
  • *Not pictured: Rub Rub, a tub of ocean-scented body scrub.

May I suggest Cinders bath bomb and a touch of Gingerbread House? It was honestly the most scrumptious bath I've ever taken. Not too sweet and just spicy enough. MMMmmmm I love the holidays!

Gorgeous Matte Skin in the Summer

Last weekend, I went to a fabulous vineyard wedding in Northern California and did the makeup for the bridal party. Here is the Mother of the Bride. She wore a navy blue long gown with crystal accessories. Her skin is on the oily side so I packed her down with MAC Matte CreamPrep + Prime Skin and Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder. The powder can be worn on top of or underneath foundation. It's such a shine-saver!

I gave Becky's olive complexion coral cheeks and lips to make it pop and matched her eyes to her dress.

New Under-Eye Products

Lately, the most frequently asked question I get is "how do I get rid of these puffy, baggy, wrinkly under-eyes?" While plastic surgery is probably the only answer to that, I can vouch for these two products below to help improve the look of said "puffy, baggy, wrinkly under-eyes." Both are relatively new products, one being the higher-end and the other a more affordable, lower-end. I like to provide at least two options when it comes to skin care because the ingredients are not always the same, and may affect your skin differently. Both are super simple to use (just ROLL away!) and mess-free. Both will also smooth out and fill lines while providing cooling caffeine, which is known to sooth irritated skin and depress those under-eye balloons. Happy Shopping!

TGIF: Beauty Survey

1) MOOD - My morning started off with a lot of sad feelings. Everyone deals with grief differently, and mine just kind of creeps up on me at a moment's notice. I'm feeling a little more balanced now, but still...not the greatest.

2) EYELINER- Auto de Bleu Technakohl  by MAC Cosmetics

3) FRAGRANCE- CoCo CaBaNa by Bath & Body Works. Limited item that I had leftover from a few summers ago. This is a yummy concoction of coconut and pineapple and smells sweetly of sunscreen. Nothing's beats the smell of summer!

4) INSPIRATION- I truly feel a connection to the Virgin Mary and collect all kinds of religious memorabilia. I am currently looking to purchase a statue of her for our balcony. Here's a photo my boyfriend took of a beautiful statue in a church in New Orleans during his trip.

5) LOVE of the DAY- I just can't get enough of my little survivor Capuccino. He has been through so much, and continues to fight through his physical ailments with a wag in his tail and and smile on his face. Love my little Mush-Mush!

6) Makeup Crush- Obviously, my current Lush obsession. I've spent nearly $100 in 3 different locations in the past month. Don't judge me. LOL

Products Shown:
GeoPhyzz Bath Bomb: Sea salt, Cypress and Sandalwood, smells like Hawaii
Bathos Bubble Bar: Violet leaf and Jasmine, turns your water sexy purple!
Sandstone Soap: Sand, Gardenia and Lemon, smells like a Brazilian beach

7) OUTFIT-  Well, folks, it's Cajshy Friday so I have on a blue and white striped "nautical" dress, blue tank top, and gold heels. Because that's just how I roll.

8) HAIR- I am really digging the French braid trend right now. I just learned how to French-braid (my mom doesn't know how, therefore, I never learned), and that's basically all I have been doing for weeks. Pigtails, side pony tail, just-the-bangs, you name it.

If you are like me, and need to learn how to do it, click this link: How To French-Braid Your Hair

9) SONG OF THE DAY- I am not ashamed to say I have been rocking out to Ace of Base lately. Oh how I miss the 90's! All That She Wants is in constant rotation. Remember the "remix" version at the end of the cd with the Indian twist? Kinda lovin' it!

10) GOALS FOR THE WEEK- Seeing Hot Tub Time Machine with my man tonight, going to a Tupperware party hosted by a Mexican drag queen tomorrow as well as an 80's themed bday party that evening, and a possible gig on Sunday. Then preparing my body for the hell the trainer at 24 Hour is going to put it through twice next week!

LUSH at Universal

Ok, I have finally jumped on the LUSH train. Why did I ever go to Bath and Body Works or Body Shop?! Not only does this company have amazing products, but they use all vegan, organic and animal byproduct-free  ingredients. I think we all sometimes forget how incredibly important it is that we pay attention to what goes on our skin, and how it's our responsibility to keep products as natural and as cruelty-free as possible. Below are descriptions of each product I purchased after going crazy at the Universal City Walk store in L.A.
.

Big Blue Bath Bomb (top left): Atlantic sea salt crystals, seaweed,  lavender and lime. Apparently it also turns your water BLUE!

The Comforter Bubble Bar (top middle): Blackcurrant fragrance. This one is big enough to be broken in half for two baths.

Flosty Gritter Bubble Bar (top right): Swirls of glitter,  pink sparkles and fluffy white bubbles. Vanilla with lavender.

Sultana Soap (bottom left): Olibanum and bergamot oils. Topped with dried apricots, dried currants and dried cranberries. I rub this on my loofah and might I say I don't even need lotion when I get out of the shower!

Alkmaar Soap (bottom right): Jasmine and Honeysuckle, can't wait to try it!

Top Facial Cleansers to Buy in This Economy

Hello! Every makeup lover knows that along with makeup, you need to take good care of your skin. Being an artist I often get asked about cleansers. In this economy, I thought I would post some suggestions on here that are affordable, especially at a time when every dollar saved is a dollar earned. I am so suprised to see many people throwing down more than $20.00 for a bottle of facial cleanser, when they could easily buy a cheaper one that has the same results. As makeup artist and a WOMAN I simply refuse to spend more than $20.00 on any type of facial cleansers. It's ridiculous when there are plenty of cheaper options available to all of us.  Below you will find six options that I have reviewed, all of which you can find at your local drugstore or mall. All are makeup removers as well.

Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap- $8.00
Good for: Oily and troubled skin
*Smells awesome and keeps skin clear and even-toned

Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar- $3.70
Good for: Sensitive skin
*Incredibly gentle and great makeup-remover

Clinique Liquid Facial Mild Soap- $14.50
Good for: Combination skin
*On the higher end, but worth every penny

Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar- $1.99
Good for: Dry Skin
*Leaves skin feeling soft, not cracked

MAC Cosmetics Wipes- $18.00/45 sheets

*Great after a night of going out and your face is covered in makeup and glitter. But remember to wash your face afterward with a cleanser since this product is derived from sugar. :)

Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser- $7.49
Good for: All skin types
*A Lady C fave! This cleanser is the first thing i see in the morning and the last thing i use before bed. Love love LOVE it!
